Syrian Government Forces Launch Offensive in Northern Raqqa

Syrian transitional government troops have initiated a new military operation in northern Raqqa, targeting former SDF-held areas and prompting heavy clashes along the Raqqa–Tabqa front line.

On 11 April 2026, Syrian government forces backed by allied militias launched a fresh offensive in northern Raqqa, moving toward villages previously controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces along the Raqqa–Tabqa axis. The operation reportedly aims to consolidate control over Euphrates‑bank settlements and secure oil infrastructure amid fragile implementation of earlier ceasefire and integration agreements. Local monitoring groups report artillery strikes, drone attacks, and several casualties on both sides, with sporadic clashes continuing into the evening. The move has heightened tensions in northeastern Syria, where Kurdish‑led forces accuse Damascus of deliberately undermining the ceasefire and preparing to roll back SDF territorial gains.
