Mpox outbreak response in Comoros

Ongoing Mpox clade I outbreak response across Comoros islands, targeting 30,000 people with enhanced detection and infection control.

The Union of the Comoros is responding to its first recorded Mpox epidemic, caused by clade I and linked to imported cases from Madagascar. The outbreak began in late January 2026, with initial cases detected on Ngazidja and Anjouan and rapidly spreading risk across the archipelago. The Comoros Red Crescent and public health authorities are deploying response measures including early detection at entry points, community surveillance, infection prevention in health facilities and households, and stigma‑reduction efforts for 30,000 people on three islands.
