Greek police conducted a massive operation targeting a large-scale organized crime network involved in cigarette smuggling, extortion and contract killings. The network smuggled illegal cigarettes, extorted rival businessmen in the tobacco industry and is linked to several murders of underworld figures. Over 40 people were arrested in raids across Athens, Thessaloniki, Halkida and other locations. The operation disrupted two factories and several warehouses used for processing and storing contraband cigarettes.
