Lithuania warns of Russian military threat to NATO as Ukraine war continues
Lithuanian intelligence warns that Russia may pose a direct threat to NATO in the Baltics after the war in Ukraine if sanctions are lifted.
Lithuania’s intelligence services have published an annual national security threat report indicating that Russia cannot pose a direct military threat to Lithuania and other NATO countries while its forces remain committed to the war in Ukraine. However, the report warns that if a peace agreement is reached and most international sanctions on Russia are removed, Moscow could prepare for a limited military conflict in the Baltic region within one to two years and for a large‑scale conflict with NATO within six to ten years. The report also notes that Russia continues to pursue its goal of subjugating Ukraine and altering the balance of power in Europe.
