Knife attack near Suriname's capital Paramaribo kills at least 9 people
A knife attack in Richelieu, Commewijne district, near Paramaribo killed at least nine people, including several children.
A knife attack occurred in Richelieu in the Commewijne district, located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) east of Paramaribo, in which the suspect attacked his children and neighbors. The victims included four of the attacker's children and neighbors who came to help, as well as one neighbor's child. The attack apparently began after an argument over a phone call with the suspect's wife regarding the pickup of their children. The suspect attempted to attack police officers responding to the scene and was injured during his arrest; he is recovering in hospital.
