Italy rules out participation in Iran–Israel war

Italy’s government has formally ruled out participation in the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, reiterating that it does not take part in the military strikes and does not intend to enter the war. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Supreme Defence Council have emphasized constitutional constraints on using war as an instrument of policy under Article 11 of the Italian Constitution, while still maintaining close alliance ties with NATO. Rome has concurrently intensified diplomatic coordination with European partners and Gulf states to contain regional escalation and protect energy routes. Officials warn that uncontrolled conflict could destabilize the wider Mediterranean and threaten European security, even as Italy distances itself from direct combat roles.
