Honduras continues to clear its forests, which are considered one of its best protections against climate change and intensifying storms. Deforestation, driven by shifting agriculture and cattle ranching, has left the land unable to absorb excess water, worsening floods that destroy homes, crops, and entire communities. Recent storms have been particularly destructive in part because of the loss of forest cover.
