Health officials advise caution as Czechia hit by RSV epidemic
Czechia is experiencing a nationwide surge in acute respiratory infections, driven by RSV, flu and other respiratory viruses, with most regions in epidemic status.
The Czech Ministry of Health reports that the number of people suffering from respiratory diseases, including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rose by one‑third over the past week, reaching 2,342 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The rise is occurring across all regions and age groups, with most of the country experiencing an epidemic of acute respiratory infections; only Prague has not yet reached epidemic levels, while South Bohemia is at a borderline epidemic stage. Health authorities warn that case numbers will likely increase further in the coming weeks before subsiding and advise the public to avoid crowds and strictly follow hygiene measures such as sneezing into tissues and frequent handwashing.
