Guyana drives projected Caribbean growth surge in 2026–2027
World Bank projects Guyana to power most Caribbean growth in 2026–2027 through oil‑led expansion and strong fiscal management.
The World Bank’s January 2026 Global Economic Prospects Report forecasts that Guyana will remain the Caribbean’s fastest‑growing economy, contributing disproportionately to regional performance. The sub‑region is projected to grow by 5.2% in 2026 and 6.6% in 2027, levels that fall sharply if Guyana’s output is excluded. Individually, Guyana’s GDP is projected to surge by 19.6% in 2026 and 21.9% in 2027, driven by rising oil production and continued investment in infrastructure and non‑oil sectors. These forecasts align with the government’s 2026 National Budget and its strategy of using oil revenues to fund broad development and diversification.
