Georgia Boosts Oversight to Fight Air Pollution in Rustavi

Georgia intensifies industrial inspections and environmental controls to combat air pollution in Rustavi, a key pollution hotspot.

Georgia's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has announced strengthened oversight measures to improve air quality in Rustavi. As part of the national 2023–2025 air quality management strategy, the Environmental Oversight Department will intensify inspections of industrial facilities, enforce stricter sanctions for exceeding emission standards, and support the implementation of integrated environmental permits and Best Available Techniques. The city hosts major industrial firms such as Rustavi Steel LLC and Rustavi Azot, which contribute significantly to NO₂ and PM₁₀ levels. Rustavi already has a modern air monitoring station providing round‑the‑clock data to the National Environmental Agency, which helps target enforcement actions and track progress in reducing air pollution.
