Fraud offences up by 73% in six months - garda figures
Unprecedented rise in fraud and financial crime across Ireland.
Provisional garda statistics show a 73% increase in overall fraud offences in the first six months of the reporting period compared with the same period in the previous year. This includes major spikes in forgery or false instruments (up 200%), deception or other fraud (up 178%), shopping or online auction fraud (up 166%), and money‑laundering (up 82%). Gardaí describe these trends as evidence of intensifying large‑scale criminal activity involving organised and opportunistic fraud networks operating across the country.
