Criminal case launched over torture and killing of Azerbaijani citizens in Yekaterinburg

Azerbaijan has launched a criminal case over the torture and killing of two Azerbaijani citizens by Russian law enforcement staff in Yekaterinburg.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan has initiated a criminal case regarding the torture and murder with extreme cruelty of two individuals—a citizen of Azerbaijan and a person of Azerbaijani origin—by staff of law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation in Yekaterinburg. The victims were Huseyn Safarov, a 60-year-old entrepreneur, and his brother Ziyaddin Safarov, a 55-year-old taxi driver and father of two. The incident occurred within the administrative building of an internal affairs body and a service vehicle in Yekaterinburg, representing a serious cross‑border criminal act involving state‑linked personnel.
