Geopolitical Conflict

Belarus Review by iSANS – March 16, 2026

Increased military activity and UAV incidents along Belarusian borders heighten regional tensions.

Between March 9 and 15, at least 11 UAV flights were recorded in Belarusian airspace, including nine Russian and two Ukrainian drones. Belarusian Armed Forces intercepted these flights, and drones crashed in several locations, including incidents near the Homiel region and the settlement of Lenina in the Dobrush district. The Belarusian military conducted inspections and increased readiness, mobilizing anti‑aircraft units and preparing equipment for deployment. Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka commented on Ukrainian statements that the ‘Oreshnik’ missile system in Belarus could be a legitimate NATO target, reiterating Belarus’s defensive posture while warning of harsh responses if internal political stability is challenged. These developments sustain ongoing hybrid and military pressure along the Lithuanian–Belarusian border, with potential for renewed escalation.
