Azerbaijan’s current account surplus to raise on higher hydrocarbon prices – ADB
ADB analysis indicates that Azerbaijan’s current account surplus will increase due to higher hydrocarbon prices, but raises vulnerability to external shocks.
The Asian Development Bank analysis notes that higher hydrocarbon export prices are expected to widen Azerbaijan’s current account surplus, which may temporarily ease external financing pressures. However, this dependence on hydrocarbon revenues also heightens the risk of external imbalances if global energy prices reverse or if fiscal policy does not adjust conservatively.
