Cybercrime gang busted, 16 arrested: MoI

Qatari authorities arrested 16 individuals linked to a cybercrime gang that defrauded victims by posing as telecom or prize‑related representatives and stealing bank details.

The Qatar Ministry of Interior's Criminal Investigation Department dismantled a cybercrime gang that used social media and phone calls to scam residents. The suspects contacted victims, claiming they had won prizes or that their telecom accounts were involved, and then obtained bank account details and identity documents under false pretenses. Authorities allege the group swindled large sums from victims by accessing their bank accounts through mobile networks. The operation was coordinated with the Qatar Central Bank and local banks, and investigators recovered documents, financial transfer receipts, and numerous mobile phones purchased with illicit funds.
