Early detection key to TB control success: MoH
Oman reinforces tuberculosis control efforts with emphasis on early detection and expanded latent TB screening.
The Ministry of Health in Oman highlights the critical role of early detection and effective treatment in combating tuberculosis, reaffirming Oman's low‑TB‑burden status. The infection rate in 2025 was about 8.5 cases per 100,000 population, with roughly 300 cases annually, mostly among expatriates arriving from high‑prevalence countries. Oman has implemented the National Tuberculosis Elimination Strategy (2021–2025), strengthened electronic surveillance, and introduced latent TB screening and treatment for new arrivals in selected governorates, with plans to extend coverage nationwide. The ministry reports high treatment completion rates around 88% and is updating the national strategy to expand latent TB programmes and public awareness.
