Police raid at the offices of Malaysiakini, an online newspaper

Malaysiakini offices raided by police in connection with alleged seditious content.

Malaysiakini's office was raided by about 10 policemen from the Kuala Lumpur Dang Wangi District Police Station and the Computer Crime Department of the Bukit Aman National Police Headquarters. The raid was conducted in connection with a police report lodged by the youth wing of the United Malay National Organisation regarding a letter published by Malaysiakini, which was claimed to have seditious content and to incite hatred towards the government and non-Malay Malaysians. The officers seized 15 computers and four servers, depriving Malaysiakini of access to all confidential information. The editor-in-chief was also asked to provide a witness statement at the police station.
