Kuwait busts cybercrime ring

Kuwaiti authorities have dismantled an international cybercrime syndicate responsible for large‑scale cyberattacks on telecommunications infrastructure and banks.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of an international cybercrime ring composed of Chinese nationals involved in widespread cyberattacks on telecommunications towers and financial institutions. The operation, led by the Cybercrime Combat Department, followed reports from telecom companies and banks about intrusions. Investigators discovered that the group used advanced electronic devices to exploit vulnerabilities in networks, sending mass fraudulent messages impersonating banks to steal account information and funds. During questioning, suspects admitted involvement with accomplices in breaching communication networks and conducting financial fraud. Biometric checks revealed the use of forged documents to evade detection. The suspects have been referred for legal proceedings, and the ministry reiterated its commitment to combating cyber threats and strengthening cybersecurity to protect Kuwait’s financial and digital infrastructure.
