As Sudan’s war drags on, health system on the brink of collapse
Sudan’s health system is deteriorating fast due to ongoing conflict, with widespread disease outbreaks, shortages of staff and supplies, and attacks on medical facilities.
Years of conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have devastated Sudan’s public health infrastructure. Hospitals and clinics have been repeatedly attacked, looted, or shut down, leading to severe shortages of medical personnel, power, and essential supplies. This has created fertile ground for disease outbreaks such as cholera, malaria, measles, dengue, and others, while basic services like vaccination and maternal care are severely disrupted. Health authorities and humanitarian actors warn that urgent intervention is needed to prevent a full collapse of the health system and escalating mortality.
