The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and fighters from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement‑North (SPLM‑N), reportedly led by Joseph Toka, have seized parts of Sudan’s Blue Nile region. This offensive has led to the displacement of more than 73,000 people who fled the fighting. The advancing armed groups have been accompanied by widespread criminal activity, including looting of homes, businesses, and aid facilities, as well as increased extortion and property seizures at checkpoints. The situation has significantly deteriorated security in the region, creating an environment conducive to large‑scale criminal exploitation under the cover of the conflict.
