Sierra Leone confirms first Mpox case after global health alert

Sierra Leone has recorded its first Mpox case since the World Health Organization declared it a public health emergency of international concern.

The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) of Sierra Leone confirmed the country's first Mpox case involving a 27-year-old man from the Western Area Rural District. Health authorities have activated the incident command system, initiated contact tracing, and isolated the patient in a secure environment. Measures include monitoring identified contacts for 21 days and providing necessary medical care to prevent further transmission of the virus, with support from international organizations such as the WHO.
