Iranian state TV hijacked mid-broadcast amid cyber war escalation

Hackers disrupted Iran’s state television broadcast with anti-government messages during an escalating cyber conflict.

On June 18, 2025, hackers interrupted regular programming on Iran’s state-owned television, broadcasting videos urging street protests against the government. Iranian authorities warned viewers that “enemy interference with satellite signals” was causing disruptions and irrelevant messages on TV channels. This cyber incident coincided with attacks on Iran’s financial sector, including the hacking of Bank Sepah and the cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex, where attackers stole over $90 million. The breach of state television is part of a broader cyber war between Iran and Israel, with cyber actors targeting vital infrastructure and financial systems.
