Nipah virus cases detected among healthcare workers in West Bengal
Two laboratory-confirmed Nipah virus infections have been reported among healthcare workers in a private hospital in Barasat, West Bengal.
The National IHR Focal Point for India notified the World Health Organization of two laboratory-confirmed Nipah virus infections in West Bengal state. Both cases involve healthcare workers at the same private hospital in Barasat, North 24 Parganas district. The virus was confirmed at the National Institute of Virology in Pune; one patient remains on mechanical ventilation while the other has improved after severe neurological illness. Contact tracing and enhanced surveillance are ongoing.
