Days of anti-government protests triggered by the ruling party's decision to abandon EU accession talks have led to clashes with police, injuries, and arrests.
Following the Georgian Dream party's November 2024 decision to halt EU accession talks, massive, nationwide protests have continued into 2026. Law enforcement has repeatedly used excessive force against largely peaceful demonstrators, leading to injuries, beatings, and detentions. Protests have frequently occurred in central Tbilisi, especially around Rustaveli Avenue, with confrontations escalating with little warning. The political crisis has created an elevated risk environment for travelers and residents in and around protest zones.
