Georgia introduces draft legislation to create a formal system for monitoring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas emissions.
The Government of Georgia has proposed a major update to the country's Law on Environmental Protection that would establish the first formal system to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide, across key sectors of the economy. The draft law introduces a national framework for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions, with the system set to become fully operational as of January 1, 2026. Initial authorizations will be free, but operators will assume additional administrative and financial responsibilities for monitoring and reporting.
