Graphic communications firm reports exchange losses due to cedi depreciation
A state-owned media firm in Ghana has reported significant exchange losses arising from the depreciation of the cedi, highlighting ongoing currency‑related economic pressures.
Management of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd. disclosed to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee that the cedi’s depreciation from about GH¢6 to GH¢15 per US dollar in 2022 produced a large exchange‑rate loss, as around 90% of its raw materials are imported and purchased on credit. The company is implementing cost‑cutting and revenue‑enhancement measures in response. The incident exemplifies how foreign‑exchange volatility continues to strain corporate finances and represents a broader macroeconomic risk to Ghana’s economy.
