Ransomware Attack on Eswatini’s Central Medical Stores (CMS)

A ransomware attack has disrupted Eswatini’s Central Medical Stores, causing critical delays in medicine distribution and vaccinations.

Eswatini’s Central Medical Stores (CMS) has been targeted by a ransomware attack that encrypted critical databases and disrupted vaccine distribution, surgery scheduling, and medicine inventory management. The CMS is responsible for supplying over 230 health facilities, including major hospitals and rural clinics. The attack disrupted the national vaccine supply chain, delaying measles and HPV vaccinations nationwide. The Eswatini Computer Emergency Response Team (eswCERT) has contained the breach and is working with international partners to restore systems. CMS has implemented manual tracking and emergency cold-chain protocols to minimize health impacts.
