Human Nipah virus infection is an epidemic-prone disease occurring in Bangladesh, with cases reported across several districts. The virus has a high mortality rate and outbreaks primarily occur in South and South-East Asia. Since the first recognized outbreak in Bangladesh in 2001, human infections have been detected almost every year through the national Nipah surveillance system.
