Burundi and DRC armies accused of ceasefire violations near Rwandan border

Rwandan authorities accuse Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo armies of ceasefire violations and bombing of civilian areas near the Rwandan border.

Rwandan government officials report that the Burundian Army, alongside the Congolese Army (FARDC) and allied forces, has engaged in attacks and bombing of civilian villages close to the Rwandan border in South Kivu, violating the Washington Accords ceasefire. The Burundian military is said to have amassed around 20,000 troops in South Kivu in support of the DRC, including sieges on Banyamulenge villages in Minembwe. The most recent incident involved bombing of Kamanyola from Burundi, prompting over 1,000 Congolese civilians to flee across the border into Bugarama, Western Rwanda, where they are being hosted at the Nyarushishi Transit Camp.
