Azerbaijan has filed an arbitration claim against Armenia in The Hague, alleging severe and irreversible environmental damage in territories previously occupied by Armenia. Evidence indicates that Armenia's activities, including deforestation, unregulated mining, and hydroelectric construction, have devastated habitats and endangered numerous wildlife species. Reports from the United Nations Environment Programme highlight thousands of hectares of protected forests destroyed, including ancient trees, along with massive fish die-offs in the Okchuchay River due to chemical pollution from mining. Azerbaijan is seeking full compensation for this environmental damage.
