Air pollution spikes throughout Croatia in 2025

A significant increase in air pollution, especially particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), has been recorded across most of Croatia due to colder weather and the start of the heating season.

In late 2025, the Croatian Ministry of the Environment and Green Transition reported a sharp rise in air pollution levels across much of the country, particularly for particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5. Heating season emissions and colder weather contributed to measurements several times above legal limits in cities such as Zagreb, Sisak, Kutina, Koprivnica, Bjelovar, and Slavonski Brod. The spike highlighted regional air quality challenges and prompted warnings and calls for improved pollution control measures.
