Police in Latvia and Lithuania swoop on bogus call centers
Police in Latvia and Lithuania dismantled bogus call centers involved in large‑scale organized fraud and money laundering.
In February last year, the State Police Cybercrime Division initiated criminal proceedings for large-scale or organized group fraud and large-scale or organized money laundering. An organized criminal group operating in Latvia carried out large-scale fraudulent activities online, offering non-existent financial instruments such as virtual currency and related transaction services through various websites. During the investigation, 20 searches were performed in Latvia, and evidence including servers, laptops, cellphones, storage media, documents, and notes was seized. Four suspects were remanded in custody by the court on March 25 and 26 of this year, while ten others were placed under non-custodial security measures.
