Over 1,000 measles cases recorded in Kazakhstan in January 2026
Kazakhstan has recorded more than 1,300 measles cases since the beginning of 2026, primarily among unvaccinated children, with the situation remaining tense across nearly all regions.
The National Public Health Center reported 1,368 measles cases in Kazakhstan since the start of 2026, including 1,218 among children under 14 years old. Around 89% of those infected were unvaccinated. Falling vaccination rates have allowed measles to spread in schools, kindergartens, public transport, and entertainment centers. The Center emphasized the importance of herd immunity and the availability of the MMR vaccine, given at 12 months and 6 years of age, as part of the national immunization calendar.
