Cyberattack on Morgunblaðið Newspaper's Publisher
A cyberattack by the Russian group Akira has taken down one of Iceland's largest media outlets, mbl.is, and radio station K100 for several hours.
The publisher of Morgunblaðið, Árvakur, was hit by a cyberattack that encrypted a large amount of their data. The Russian group Akira was responsible for seizing and encrypting the company’s data, which led to the shutdown of their computer systems. This outage caused mbl.is and K100 to be unavailable for about three hours, disrupting media services. It is currently unclear how the attackers gained access to the systems or how much data has been recovered.
