Large Criminal Activity

Two criminal organisations with operations in Cyprus dismantled

Greek authorities dismantle two criminal groups suspected of defrauding citizens in multiple regions, including activities extending to Cyprus.

The Crime Investigation Division of Agrinio in Greece has dismantled two criminal organisations that defrauded citizens in several regions of Greece, amassing around €630,000, with evidence indicating fraudulent activities extending to Cyprus. The first organisation, active since August 2024, targeted doctors and other professionals by posing as accountants and deceiving them into transferring money under various pretenses, accumulating about €465,000. The second organisation focused on elderly victims, impersonating accountants or assistants to falsely claim entitlements to state subsidies or tax returns, defrauding them of around €164,000. A total of 120 fraud cases were uncovered, with seven members arrested in Attica, Corinth, and Kalamata, and identities identified for another 13 members and 20 accomplices. Police searches recovered vehicles, cash, bank cards, and electronic devices. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional crimes, including those in Cyprus.
