Yerevan Rocked By Another Shootout

A daylight shootout in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak district left one person dead and at least six others wounded, in what authorities and local press describe as an escalation in organized‑style gun violence.

A deadly gunfight erupted in broad daylight in the Ajapnyak district of Yerevan, injuring six men and killing a 45‑year‑old man who later died in hospital. Local residents reported bursts of gunfire, children fleeing in fear, and several cars with shattered windows at the cordoned‑off scene. Police say investigators have identified all individuals involved and are pursuing them, though motives remain officially unconfirmed. A local report links the shooting to a vendetta between two rival clans led by alleged crime figures whose relatives have been murdered in separate attacks. The incident underscores a broader upward trend in shootings, armed robberies, and firearm‑related crimes in Armenia, with police registering 152 such offenses in the past year compared to 109 in 2024 and 94 in 2023.
