Armenia Also Affected By Climate Change
Climate change is reducing water levels in reservoirs and affecting agriculture in Armenia.
The agricultural sector in Armenia is facing increasing challenges due to climate change, particularly a growing shortage of irrigation water. Artificial reservoirs, largely built in Soviet times, have seen their water levels drop by an average of about 35 percent over 2023. This has forced authorities to withdraw more water from Lake Sevan, the country's largest natural reservoir, whose water level has also fallen by 11 centimeters. These reductions threaten both irrigation capacity and the broader ecosystem dependent on these water bodies.
