Meningitis outbreak confirmed in Kent, UK

UK Health Security Agency confirms an ongoing meningococcal disease outbreak in Kent, urging students and residents to seek urgent care for symptoms.

The UK Health Security Agency has confirmed an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease in Kent, primarily affecting students linked to the University of Kent and the Canterbury area. Between 13 and 17 March 2026, 20 cases were identified, several of whom attended Club Chemistry in Canterbury. The illness can progress rapidly, with two deaths reported. UKHSA has issued clinical guidance for primary and hospital care to identify and treat suspected cases and protect close contacts.
