BBC data breach affects 25,000 current and former employees
Personal data of over 25,000 BBC pension‑scheme members was copied from a cloud storage service.
The BBC pension scheme has disclosed a data security incident in which records of more than 25,000 current and former employees were copied from an online cloud data storage service. The exposed data includes names, dates of birth, home addresses and national insurance numbers; no bank details, email addresses, usernames or passwords are reported as compromised. The BBC has secured the source of the incident and launched an investigation, while the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Pensions Regulator have been informed. Members are advised to remain vigilant for suspicious communications that may seek to exploit the exposed information.
