A 60-year-old man held two women hostage in an apartment in Zurich, then shot them and himself before police could secure the scene.

Early on the morning of March 23, 2026, police in Zurich responded to a hostage situation in an apartment in the city’s third district. A 60-year-old male occupant was holding two women, aged 34 and 38, inside the residence. After the man reportedly told officers he would surrender within ten minutes, gunshots were heard from the apartment.
