UK inheritance, property and dividend tax changes take effect April 6 2026
Several UK tax changes related to inheritance, agricultural and business property relief and dividend taxation came into effect on April 6 2026, altering estate planning and investment calculations.
On April 6 2026 new UK tax measures took effect, including reduced agricultural and business property reliefs above a £1 million threshold and extended inheritance tax treatment to qualifying AIM shares that previously exited an estate after two years. Dividend tax rates also rose: basic rate taxpayers now face 10.75% and higher rate taxpayers 35.75%, up from 8.75% and 33.75%.
