Spanish health authorities have reported new mpox cases in early March 2026, adding to the ongoing surge in highly transmissible MPXV clade Ib infections. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control indicates that Madrid remains a primary hotspot, with growing numbers also in Seville, Malaga, and other densely populated regions. Most infections are linked to clade Ib, which spreads more easily than the earlier clade II variant seen in 2022.
