World Bank highlights Guyana as driver of Caribbean growth in 2026–2027

The World Bank projects Guyana will spearhead Caribbean economic expansion through booming oil‑driven growth in 2026 and 2027, raising regional GDP averages.

According to the World Bank’s January 2026 Global Economic Prospects Report, Guyana is expected to remain the Caribbean’s fastest‑growing economy over the medium term, fueled by sustained oil production gains and broad economic activity. The Caribbean sub‑region’s GDP is projected to expand by 5.2 percent in 2026 and 6.6 percent in 2027, with Guyana’s oil‑sector‑led dynamism lifting the entire region above the performance of other countries. These projections align with Guyana’s 2026 national budget outlook, which also forecasts strong real GDP growth supported by continued expansion in both oil and non‑oil sectors.
