Community researchers detail drivers of degradation along the Irrawaddy River
Illegal logging and chemical waste are identified as primary drivers of environmental deterioration along the Irrawaddy River.
Community researchers from 27 villages along the Irrawaddy River have reported that illegal logging and chemical waste are major contributors to environmental degradation along the river and its surrounding areas. The findings were presented at a conference in Rangoon and highlight the cumulative impact of these activities on watershed forests, pollution from rice mill gasifiers, and downstream ecosystems.
