Energy‑price support plan unveiled for Slovak industry

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Saková announced a state aid scheme to shield energy‑intensive firms from high electricity prices, tied to decarbonisation investments and EU‑approved funding.

At the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry conference on Expected Development of the Slovak Economy in 2026, Minister Denisa Saková outlined an upcoming state aid scheme for energy‑intensive enterprises. The plan, already notified to the European Commission, will subsidise roughly half of electricity costs for 50% of eligible firms’ consumption, provided they reinvest half of that amount into decarbonisation projects. The measure targets the competitiveness challenge posed by persistently high energy prices while aligning with EU environmental goals. Final design and budgetary allocations will depend on ongoing negotiations with the Commission and available state funds, with the scheme expected to enter the business environment in the coming weeks.
