Attapeu authorities charge 38 government officials with corruption
Attapeu authorities have charged 38 government officials with corruption and embezzlement of over 158 billion kip in government funds.
Intensive investigations by Attapeu authorities have exposed a large‑scale corruption case involving 38 suspects, including government officials and related individuals. The primary suspect initially fled to a neighboring country but later surrendered in December 2024, leading to a broader probe. Authorities found that more than 158 billion kip and additional foreign‑currency funds were misappropriated from government ministry budgets, disaster relief funds for Sanamxay district, and loans drawn from financial institutions. Of the 38 suspects, 12 have already been prosecuted and sentenced, while 26 remain under investigation. Assets seized so far include 14 land plots, four vehicles, two motorcycles, and one mobile phone.
