DDoS attacks on independent media outlets in Kazakhstan including Kursiv.Media
Distributed denial‑of‑service attacks have targeted several independent Kazakh media websites, including Kursiv.Media, degrading or blocking access.
Since late 2023 and into 2024, at least four independent media outlets in Kazakhstan, including Kursiv.Media, have suffered DDoS attacks that rendered their websites slow or inaccessible for periods. KazTAG and others reported that to mitigate the attacks they temporarily blocked access from outside Kazakhstan, yet subsequent attacks originated from IP addresses associated with the state‑owned telecommunications company Kazakhtelecom. Kazakhstan’s Committee to Protect Journalists has urged authorities to investigate the incidents and the possible involvement of state infrastructure.
