High levels of air pollution reported in several Kazakh cities
Official monitoring shows high air pollution in multiple Kazakh cities, mainly due to industrial emissions and coal use.
According to recent ministry reports covered by the ecological section of Tengrinews.kz, cities including Temirtau, Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Aktobe, Atyrau, Ust‑Kamenogorsk, Karaganda, Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, and Shymkent are experiencing high levels of air pollution. Contributing factors include deteriorating factory equipment, ineffective dust treatment facilities, lack of modernization, and continued use of coal. The ministry highlights that air quality and waste‑management issues remain among the most pressing environmental problems in Kazakhstan.
