Seoul Police Crack Down on Crimes by Foreign Nationals
Large‑scale police operations target criminal organizations led by foreign nationals involved in gambling, drug offenses, and financial crimes.
The South Korea National Police Agency has launched a crackdown on criminal organizations composed primarily of foreign nationals, including those operating illegal sports gambling sites and involved in drug trafficking and financial crimes. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has already apprehended 60 members of a criminal organization based in the Philippines suspected of operating illegal sports gambling sites for Korean users, generating profits estimated at around 1.3 trillion won (about 1.13 billion USD). Overall, foreign nationals accused of various crimes in South Korea have been prosecuted at record levels, with a significant increase in drug‑related offenses.
