Ecuador has seen a significant rise in dengue cases and associated tropical disease risks amid the annual rainy season and recent flooding events. Poor drainage and standing water created by heavy rains have increased Aedes mosquito populations, driving higher dengue transmission; national health authorities have reported thousands of cases nationwide. Concurrently, leptospirosis and other waterborne tropical infections are also of concern, particularly in low‑lying and flood‑affected provinces. Public health officials have warned that 2026 is a high‑risk year and have activated national prevention and surveillance measures.
